Owen Willoughby, a failed lawyer from St. Louis answers an ad for a teacher for a wnadering school in the wild republic of Texas. He must travel the Mississippi and Red Rivers by boat to Shreveport where he meets a wagon train. This will take him overland through the wilds in the wilderness, where he meets the King and his tribe. This is also where he gets to know the King’s granddaughter, -heir apparent to the vast fortune in the wilderness – and her many suitors.
